Sitting in the north end of Brooklyn Bridge Park I witness the same tourist ritual repeated over and over without variation: a small group arrives from the direction of Jay Street, stops to admire the view of the two bridges and the cityscape in the background, and begins taking photos. This is done in the manner of taking turns: one member of the group poses, usually standing on a row of landscaped rocks that line the path. He/she sometimes looks at the camera and smiles, sometimes strikes a more pretentious or pseudo-preoccupied pose of someone who just happens to be photographed with such a dramatic backdrop. Then, as soon as the photo has been taken, he/she hurries over to view the results on the photographer’s phone or camera, presumably to make editorial decisions him/herself, then the two switch places and the whole thing is repeated again.
